Because of its architecture, Ljubljana is considered to be an undiscovered pearl and it is often compared with Prague.
Prešeren square dominates Ljubljana centre. It is the main square where numerous fairs, concerts and other cultural events are being held. It is full of sights, like the Town Hall that was built in the 15th century, although was later remodeled. River Ljubljanica passes through the city centre and many interesting bridges connects two banks that are filled with numerous shops and cafes. But still, the most noticeable Ljubljana sight is the Ljubljana Castle, a fortress which overlooks the historical part of Ljubljana. Main role of this fortress was to protect the citizens from the Turkish invasions in the 15th century, but today it attracts tourists from all over the world. A walk up the hill or an electric funicular takes you all the way to the top.
