The area of the park has an exceptional variety of geomorphological forms. Fascinating is the beauty of Mala and Velika Paklenica, the canyons with a height of over 700 meters. In between are valleys, forests, peaks and hills. In the park there are about 1,000 plant species and subspecies, with a great variety and richness of plant life. Seventy nine species are endemic and the park is a home to diverse fauna; deer, roe deer, wolves, bats, butterflies, woodpecker, as well as many other species. Interestingly, the park was named after the pine sap that is used for wound healing, as well as a silver coating of wooden ships.
