There are many archeological sites in Pula that show the importance of this area in ancient times. Today these sites form a recognizable appearance as this is a city where a famous Roman amphitheater Pula Arena is situated. It represents the biggest and the best-preserved monument of ancient architecture in Croatia where gladiator games and fights were held. Apart from the amphitheatre, other historical monuments represent the great mastery of builders of that time from the Gates of Hercules, the Twin gates and the city walls, the Temple of Augustus situated in the Forum, the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi, the Communal palace to a small Roman theatre. As the biggest Istrian town, Pula shows its importance then and now, as the most developed economic area in the region.
