The park was declared a Croatian National park in 1953, thanks to the wealth of natural beauty that can be found here. On a surface of 3014 hectares, diverse wildlife is abundant, complemented by the beauty of the landscape. Rich forests, grasslands and meadows with rocks are home to numerous mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, butterflies... The most important animal is the lynx (ris), after which Risnjak got its name.
