Rovinj is one of the most beautiful towns in Mediterranean. Development of Tourism in Rovinj can be placed in the late 19th century, when many of the health resorts were opened. All of them were directly related to the sea. Once, Rovinj was an old fishing village that suddenly decided to use the benefits of the sea for a totally different purpose, transforming Rovinj into a health resort centre. Good climate helped with the developing health tourism, as well as tourism in general. All of it made Rovinj one of the most important tourist places in Croatia. It is not often that a town is as beautiful as Rovinj. Situated on a small hill is the church of St. Eufemia, one of town patronesses, overlooking the colorful fishing port and narrow cobblestone streets. Seven town gates used to protect the inner town but unfortunately only three of them remain today. In the labyrinth of the small streets many art galleries and museums can be found, the City Palace, town clock, town walls, and Balbi’s Arch, which once was the main entrance to the town.
